John Locke, heavy with the knowledge that he caused the hatch explosion attempts to find Eko. After entering a trance like state he is confronted with an apparition of Boon who advises him that he must 'clean up his own mess'. John realises that this refers his distrust of the now missing Eko, and his faith in the pushing the button.

John's flashbacks point show a time in which he picked up a young hitch hiker named Eddie and introduced him to the commune to which he belonged to. They appear to be a peaceful group who live a self sustained life, this life is funded by the growth of marijuana. After some time the commune leaders reveal to John that his young friend is an undercover cop and purposely attached himself to John in order to infiltrate drug ring.

John finds an unlikely allie in Charlie who assists him with the search for Eko. They eventually find him mauled by a Polar Bear but still alive.

Our final flashback sees a betrayed John confront Eddie, who admits that they deliberately chose John to lead them to the commune. John once again feels the betrayal of someone he trusted.

A naked Desmond emerges from the jungle safe but appears to have acquired an unusual power.
