Stranger in a Strange Land

Kate attempts to convince Sawyer that they should turn the canoe back and try to rescue Jack. Sawyer is instantly dismissive of the suggestion, while Karl agrees that they would be killed if they returned.

Jack is back in the aquarium but is soon removed by Tom to make space for a handcuffed Juliette who is being escorted in his direction. Jack finds himself in the bear cages that housed Kate and Sawyer. He is confronted by a group of people including 'Cindy' the air stewardess who vanished on her way to camp and the children from the tail section who had been snatched while sleeping. Cindy claimed that they were "Here to Watch".

Jack's flashback begins on the island of Phuket where he is attempting to fly a kite on the beach. A young Thai woman, Achara, helps him. She soon becomes Jack's lover. On a night out Jack asks Achara what she does, however she evades the subject claiming that that they should just have some fun.

Juliette approaches Jack's cage with of picture of Ben's stitches that appear to be infected. She asks Jack to help him and claims that she is in trouble for killing someone. Jack refuses to help Ben. Later he is visited by an older woman who starts to read his tattoos in Chinese and states that the meaning is quite ironic given his situation. She introduces herself as Isabel, the sheriff and takes Jack to another building for questioning. He sits with Juliette and Tom and Isabel asks Jack if Juliette told him to kill Ben. Jack says that she didn't tell him to kill Ben and that he was trying to turn them against each other.

Once back in his cage, Alex asks Jack why she helped her father. Jack demands to know what is happening to Juliette, it is revealed that she is currently standing trial and that the likelihood is that she will be sentenced to death. Jack tells Alex to take him to Ben.

During his flash back Jack follows Achara one evening into a room that looks like a tattoo parlour. She tells him that she is not a tattoo artist and that she sees who people really. Jack asks her to tell him who he is, she refuses saying that there would be consequences. Jack forces her to tattoo him with what she sees.

Jack visits Ben in the medical unit, he tells him he will help him if Juliette lives. Alex carries the word to Isabel that Ben has issued a pardon but insists that Juliette must be marked. The others prepare to leave the island telling Jack that his friends will come looking for him here. They are going to where Ben calls home. Isabel reads Jack's tattoo in English 'He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us".

In the final instalment of Jack's flashback he is ambushed by Achara's brother and friends, they severely punch him and warn him to leave the country immediately.
