The Shape of Things to Come

Epiosde 9 opens on the beach, as Jack and Kate talk about Jack's health - he's not feeling well and has been taking antibiotics for what he thinks might be a stomach virus. Suddenly, Vincent starts barking and Bernard shouts for help - everyone runs to see what the commotion is, and they find a dead body has washed ashore - it's the doctor from the freighter. He has a cut throat.

In the forest, Keamy and the other soldiers from the freighter lead Alex to the sonic fence. They make her enter a code to turn the fence off.

Back at the barracks, Hurley, Locke, and Sawyer are playing a board game when the phone rings. It's a prerecorded message saying "14-J." The guys go find Ben and tell them about the phone call - he freaks out. He pulls a shotgun out and hands it to Sawyer. He begins blocking all the doors closed. Locke asks what's going on, and Ben says "They're here."

FLASHFORWARD: Ben wakes up in a daze in the middle of the Sahara desert wearing a Dharma jacket. Suddenly, two guys on horseback ride up to him and speak to him in a foreign language. Ben pulls a baton out of his pocket and hits one of the guys, grabbing his gun. He shoots the other guy and steals his horse, riding off into the desert.

Back at the barracks, Sawyer runs to get Claire from her house. Ben tells Locke that he and Hurley MUST survive the attack so they can go to Jacob.

At the beach, Jack quizzes Daniel Faraday about the dead doctor and when he last saw him. Daniel says "When is relative."

At the barracks, a shootout erupts - 3 Oceanic survivors are shot and killed. Sawyer runs to Claire's house, which has been blown up.

FLASHFORWARD: Ben checks into a hotel in Tunisia. He asks the desk clerk what year it is. As he goes to his room, he passes a TV and sees Sayid telling the press that he wants to "bury his wife in peace."

At the barracks, Sawyer finds Claire knocked out in the rubble of her blown up house. Sawyer runs with her to Ben's house. They hide there with guns, trying to see what's going on. There is a knock at the door - it's Miles, holding a walkie-talkie. He says "They want to talk to you."

FLASHFORWARD: Ben goes to Nadia's funeral. Sayid sees him and tackles him. Sayid asks him what he's doing there. Ben claims he took Desmond's boat to get off the island. Ben tells Sayid that the murderer of Sayid's wife Nadia was an assassin sent by Charles Widmore. Ben tells Sayid this info so that Sayid can go murder his wife's killer.

At the barracks, Ben talks to Keamy, who is holding Alex hostage with a gun to her head. Keamy says that if Ben leaves the house without a struggle, they'll let everyone else live. Ben refuses and tells them to all leave the island at once. Keamy tells Ben he has 10 seconds. As he counts down, Ben starts saying that Alex isn't his real daughter, he took her from a crazy woman when she was a baby. As Ben talks, Keamy gets to 0. and he shoots Alex in the head, killing her. Ben is SHOCKED. He says "He changed the rules." He runs into a secret room and shuts the door.

FLASHFORWARD: Ben tracks down Nadia's killer in a café. He says he wants the man to bring a message to Charles Widmore for him. Suddenly, Sayid pops out and shoots the guy, killing him. Sayid looks at Ben and says "who's next?" He's on his way to becoming an assassin for Ben.

At the barracks, Ben emerges from the secret room and says they all have to run. Suddenly, outside, the smoke monster emerges and begins attacking all of the soldiers from the freighter. Ben, Locke, Claire, Aaron, Sawyer, Hurley, and Miles all run into the jungle as the monster starts attacking people.

On the beach, Daniel sends a morse code message to the freighter to find out what happened to the doctor. Everyone watches as Daniel does this - he gets a message back and says "Desmond and Sayid are fine and the helicopter is coming back." Bernard calls him on this lie, since he knows Morse code too. The true message, Bernard reveals, was "what are you talking about? The doctor is fine." Jack grabs Daniel, who finally admits the freighter is not there to rescue anyone. Jack then collapses in pain, grabbing at his stomach.

In the forest, Sawyer, Claire, and Aaron split apart from Locke, Ben, Hurley, and Miles. They head back to the beach.

FLASHFORWARD: In London, Ben goes to a posh hotel and sneaks up to a room, lying to the doorman. He breaks in and finds Charles Widmore in bed. Charles asks if Ben's there to kill him, and Ben says "You know I can't do that." Ben says since Charles changed the rules, he will kill Charles' daughter, Penelope. Charles says Ben will never find Penelope, and that he wants his island back. Ben says that Charles will never find the island, and the hunt is on.
