Open on a FLASHBACK: A teenage looking girl dances around her room to Buddy Holly's "Everyday." Her mother comes in the room and starts arguing with her about the girl going out for the night - the mother doesn't approve of the fact that the guy the girl is dating is "twice her age." The girl - who we find out is named Emily - runs out of the house and into the street and is hit by a car. She waked up in the hospital and it turns out she's pregnant. She delivers the baby, which is taken away from her by a nurse. As the nurse runs off, Emily shouts "Name him John!"
In the jungle on the island, Locke, Hurley, and Ben set up camp for the night.
On the freighter, Keamy and the other mercenaries show up, carryingthe guys wounded by the smoke monster. Desmond and Sayid notice this. The freighter's captain, Gault, leads Keamy to the brig, and Keamy starts beating the heck out of Michael once Michael admits that he was the one who told Ben Linus all the info about Keamy. Finally, Keamy pulls his gun and Michael and pulls the trigger - but the gun jams. Gault then pleads with Keamy not to kill Michael - he's the only one who can fix the engines on the boat. Keamy sneers and hits Michael in the face again.
Back in the jungle, Locke wakes up and finds a guy in a Dharma jumpsuit chopping wood. Locke talks to the guy, who says his name is Horace - he's building a secret getaway for him and his wife, because he needs a break from the Dharma initiative. Locke looks confused, and Horace smiles as his nose starts bleeding, saying "I've been dead for 12 years." Horace tells John he needs to find Horace in order to find Jacob. Horace then starts repeating the same sentence over and over again, and Locke wakes up. Ben looks at him knowingly and says "I used to have dreams." They all wake up and start to break up camp.
FLASHBACK: Back in the hospital, Emily's mother seems almost disappointed that baby John survived, having been born so prematurely. When the nurse offers to give Emily her baby to hold, Emily cries and runs out of the room. Emily's mom asks the nurse about giving up the baby for adoption, when suddenly Richard Alpert shows up to the nursery. He looks the same age as he's always looked.
In the jungle, Locke leads Hurley through the jungle to show him the mass grave of dead bodies of the Dharma Initiative. Locke tells Hurley that Ben killed them all.
FLASHBACK: John - now about 5-years-old - is sitting in his living room, when a woman comes in and tells him there is a man there to see him. Richard Alpert walks in and tells John he runs a school for special children, and he wants to test John. Richard shows John a bunch of items - a book, a baseball glove, a comic book, some other things, and a knife. Richard asks John "which of these things already belongs to you?" John picks up the knife. Richard gets angry and grabs the knife back from John. He storms out of the room, telling the woman that John is "not ready" for his special school. John looks disappointed and sad.
In the jungle, Locke searches through the dead bodies. Hurley watches and talks to Ben, who tells Hurley that it was the Others' leader's decision for him to kill them all. Hurley says he thought Ben was the leader of the Others. Ben says "not always." Locke finally finds Horace's corpse and unzips the pocket, finding a map to the cabin.
On the freighter, Keamy tells Gault he is going to use "second protocol" to find Ben Linus. Gault goes to find Desmond and Sayid and tells them to go hide Sayid says eh wants to take the freighter's raft to the island to start rescuing people.
In the jungle, Locke tells Hurley he can go back to the beach. Hurley doesn't want to leave alone, at night.
FLASHBACK: As a high school student, young John Locke visits with a school teacher who tells him that a company called Mittelos Laboratories called, asking if John would want to take part in a "science camp" they are running. John gets angry, saying he's not interested.
On the freighter, Frank Lapidus talks with Michael about the faked wreckage of Oceanic 815. Michael begs Frank to not take his people back to the island - "they'll kill everybody." Down the hallway, they notice Keamy being outfitted with some kind of device involving a heart-rate monitor. He door is slammed when Keamy realizes he's being watched.
Sayid and Desmond sneak out to meet Gault - Sayid gets on the raft and takes off the rescue the Losties.
In the jungle, Hurley finds the cabin.
FLASHBACK: Locke is in physical therapy in his wheelchair. Suddenly, a nurse appears - it's Matthew Abbadon. He tells Locke that the fact that he survived a fall from 8 stories wa s a miracle. He tells Locke to take an Australian walkabout. He gives Locke a knife.
On the freighter, Keamy and his team start to get on the helicopter. Frank says he won't take them to the island. Keamy slits the doctor's throat and kills him, throwing him overboard. Keamy then kills Gault. He tells Frank if he doesn't take them to the island, he'll kill more people.
On the beach, Jack and the gang watch the helicopter fly overhead. A package flies out of the helicopter - it's Frank's phone. Jack says "I think they want us to follow them."
In the jungle, Locke enters the cabin. He sees Christian Shephard sitting there. Christian says he "can speak on behalf of Jacob." Christian tells Locke he was "chosen." Locke realizes Claire is sitting in the cabin too. She seems relaxed and happy. Christian tells Locke they don't have much time - the people from the freighter are coming - so he should ask "the question that really matters." Locke asks how he can save the island.
Outside, Hurley and Ben share a candy bar. Locke comes out, and Ben asks what they're supposed to do next. Locke pauses and says "he wants us to move the island."
