There's No Place Like Home, Pt. 2 & 3

Part 3

A man is sitting in a car outside the Santa Rosa mental hospital. A man approaches the window and we hear Sayid's voice ask for the time. Before the man in the car can respond he has been shot. Inside we see Sayid approach Hurley who sitting alone playing chess. Sayid tells Hurley that Bentham is dead and that he must come with him. Hurley asks why he should do that when this is the first time he has seen Sayid since they got back. Sayid explains that it is dangerous and that he just killed a man who has been stalking the institution for a week. Hurley asks if they are going back, Sayid tells him no, just somewhere safe.

At the Orchid station Keamy is dying. He tells Ben that wherever he is, Widmore will find him. Ben replies "Not if I find him first". Keamy dies and the dead man's trigger stops.

On the freighter Jin sees the detonator light on the bomb switch on, Michael's plan has bought them a small amount of time. He tells Desmond and Jin to get everyone off the boat. Desmond runs on desk shouting that everyone needs to evacuate. He sees the helicopter about to land and begins screaming for it not to land. Ben shouts at Lapidus not to land but he rebels against jack saying that they have no fuel. Once landed they frantically try to fix the leak and refuel the helicopter. Bedlam ensues and Sun starts to run below deck with Aaron to find Jin but Kate tells her to get on the helicopter and she will fetch Jin. As she approaches the door when Jack drags her back to the helicopter. Below deck the nitrogen runs out and Michael tells Jin to get to his wife and child. Jin runs up to the deck just as the helicopter takes off with Sun screaming onboard. Everyone is trying to hold her back as she tries to jump out towards Jin.

In the armoury Michael hears a whisper, he turns around to see Christian Shephard who tells Michael he can go now.

Sun is still hysterical looking down at Jin, then a huge explosion engulfs the freighter and sinks it within a matter of seconds. Sun is inconsolable, Jack tells her that he is gone. He tells the pilot to fly back to the island.

Flash to forward to Sun Kwon in London, she approaches Mr Widmore outside a restaurant and introduces herself as MD of the Paik Organisation. They exchange pleasantries before Sun tells him to stop pretending not to know who she is. She tells him that she wants to work with him.

Back in the Orchid, Ben flicks a switch which begins a lot of noise within the vault. He and Locke duck and there is a loud explosion. Ben then changes into a thermal coat, he tells Locke that he is going somewhere cold and that he can't follow. He tells Locke that whoever moves the island must leave it. He apologies for making his life a misery and tells him that his people will be waiting, ready to follow his every word.

At the beach, Sawyer swims to shore to see Juliette drinking a bottle of rum. He asks why she is celebrating, she tells him she isn't and points to a huge cloud of smoke in the distance where the freighter was.

Locke makes his way into the jungle and stands before Ben's people. Richard Alpert welcomes Locke "home".

At the Orchid station Ben makes his way down an icy tunnel and falls into a pit at the bottom. He lights a gas lantern and begins to turn an old, stiff wooden wheel that clearly has not been used in a very long time. Ben says that he hopes Jacob is happy now. As he pushes a strong humming sound can be heard and a bright light begins to intensify. This can be seen by Locke and the others and by Sawyer and Juliette. Ben becomes lost in a vacuum of bright light.

The survivors in the helicopter are approaching the island and cover their eyes as the light begins to intensify. Then suddenly, the island vanishes out of sight, leaving only bare ocean where it once was. No one can believe their eyes, but before they can comprehend what they've seen the helicopter runs out of fuel and they crash land in the sea. Amazingly no one is hurt and they all swim to the life boat.

We flash forward to Kate's apartment. The phone rings and Kate answers, we can hear whispers, then a loud bang downstairs. Kate runs to the closet to fetch her gun and runs to Aaron's room. She sees a figure beside him. It is Clare. She faces Kate and tells her not to take him back. Kate wakes up from what she thinks was a dream and checks on Aaron sleeping.

Back on the lifeboat Lapidus starts shouting, he can see a boat ahead. The boat heads in their direction. As the survivors come to terms with the prospect of being rescued Jack tells them that they will have to lie to protect those left on the island. He reasons that someone has to huge lengths to plant a plane at the bottom of the ocean to convince the world their plane crashed, while Keamy and his team planned to kill everyone on the island. Kate is not convinced they can do it, Jack tells them that he will do the talking. As the boat approaches them we hear a man speaking Portuguese and the name ‘Widmore' is mentioned. Desmond looks up to see Penny looking down. He leaps onto the boat and into Penny arms. Penny tells him she tracked his phone call, Desmond tells her that he loves her and will never leave her again. Penny is introduced to the survivors, Jack tells her that they need to talk.

Days have past and Hurley asks Sayid where they are. Sayid replies, Membata. Hurley probes as to why they are doing this and Sayid tells him that's it's the only way to keep them safe. The survivors, minus Desmond and Lapidus climb into the raft and set sail. Some time has passed and we see a small boy fishing by the sea, he spots the raft heading towards the shore. As it approaches, villagers from around the beach come to help the raft ashore.

We flash forward to an inebriated Jack pulling up outside the funeral home. He breaks the lock on the door and enters. He lifts the lid of Bentham's coffin and is disturbed by a voice from behind, "hello". It's Ben Linus. He asks Jack if he knew Bentham had left the island. Jack tells him that he did and that they spoke a month ago. He tells Ben that Bentham claimed bad things had happened when they left and that it was Jack's fault for leaving. He told him that Jack has to go back. Ben tells Jack that he can't go back to the island without everybody else. Jack goes to leave but Ben stops him, reminding him that everyone has to go back, gesturing at the coffin. We glide over the coffin lid to see that Bentham is none other than John Locke.
