Born in Essex, a lot of people will know me from my nine-year acting stint as Grant Mitchell on EastEnders. I've also appeared in TV dramas, including Without Motive and Ultimate Force.
In 2006, I began my BAFTA-winning series Ross Kemp on Gangs.
This month, you can see my new series Ross Kemp on Afghanistan on Sky One. I wanted to do a programme about the British Army, to get across the point of view of squaddies in the thick of the action.
The reality is, most British soldiers are now training for war or fighting in a war zone, either in Afghanistan or in Iraq - and that hasn't been the case for a very long time.
